Hair loss is often considered a masculine issue. Fifty percent of men experience some form of hair loss with varying degrees over their lifetimes. Most hair loss occurs between the ages of 20 to 30 and many men will have lost some or most of their hair before it has had the opportunity to turn gray. The first sign of male pattern baldness is the recession of hair along the forehead. This is also referred to as a “receding hairline.”
Many men try to first remedy the situation by using lotions, shampoos, or other topical products. These are typically overpriced and do not correct the issue. The hair continues to fade, as does one’s self confidence. Hair loss is not only a physical malady, but can also take a psychological toll on self-worth or work performance. One study found that individuals with hair loss were viewed as less desirable candidates to those with full heads of hair in the workforce.
