Hair Transplantation with the FUT Method

Strip method for a high level of natural hair density

The desired goal of hair transplantations is a natural hairline or an attractive hair density. To achieve that goal, different factors such as the experience of the treating doctor as well as the use of the latest techniques play important roles. The Follicular Unit Transplantation (short: FUT method) represents best practice in the field of own hair transplantations.

FUT Hair transplantation

The FUT method (Follicular Unit Transplantation or strip method) describes the transplantation of healthy hair roots into bald areas. Under local anaesthesia a fine hair strip is being taken from the densely covered hair fringe from the back of the head. This intervention using the FUT technique is being executed by way of innovative microsurgery and is painless due to the local anaesthesia. The hair roots (follicular units) are extracted from the skin strip after being removed under the microscope. Subsequently, the hair roots are prepared in very small units (grafts) before they are brought into the area of head that is affected by hair loss. The result: an aesthetic and natural hair growth which remains throughout the whole life.

When is the FUT method recommendable?

In a personal counselling interview with the treating doctor and with regard to the current hair situation, the most suitable method of own hair transplantation is selected. The FUT method is mainly suitable for patients who prefer to usually have their hair (longer than 0.5 cm).

Using a special suture technique, we achieve that the hair can grow through the scar so that even short hairstyles can be worn.

The FUT hair transplantation offers the patient the following advantages:

  • The optical hair density at the back of the head will be preserved at its best.
  • With a special, innovative suture technique, hair can even grow on the removal site. Furthermore there is no visible scar.
  • Large, bald areas can be treated as a large quantity of follicular units (grafts) are transplanted
  • In case the patient decides for another own hair transplantation, the doctor removes the skin strip in a way that there will ideally remain only an unobtrusive scar at the back of the head

Process of the hair transplant with FUT

  1. Preparing the donor site for the hair transplant using the FUT method
  2. Removing a small skin strip from the back of the head under local anaesthesia
  3. Selection/Preparation of the hair roots in very small units (follicular units) under the microscope by our competent and professional team
  4. Grafting of the hair by way of a small hollow needle and/or a thin micro knife
  5. Checking the whole area with regard to a complete density and the exact positioning of the hair transplants

Wound healing and treatment after having used the FUT method

When using the strip method (also called FUT method), a small skin strip will be taken from the patient’s back of the head. As this removal is executed by an experienced doctor, there will only remain a hardly visible linear scar near the back of the head. However, this scar will be covered by the patient’s hair of head, so that this form of the own hair transplantation achieves a very good result without leaving visible traces of the intervention.

After a quality check made by the doctor, the hair can carefully be dressed. The team of KÖ-HAIR explains you in detail how you can foster your hair best after the treatment. Already after about three to six month the implanted hair roots begin to produce “new” hair.
