In the FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) method, micro-grafts are obtained by removing a fine strip of skin from the most dense fringe of hair. The most dense fringe of hair is usually found on the back of the head near the base of the neck. This method of hair restoration is also called “Strip Harvesting” or “Single Strip.” After collection, the micro-grafts are divided into tiny follicular units (1-4 hair roots) and incorporated into the affected regions of hair loss using surgical instruments. Even large areas, such as frontal baldness and tonsures, can be permanently transplanted. The donor site is virtually invisible under the top coat of hair.
The consultation:
The first consultation will assess your hair loss and will thoroughly explain your candidacy for hair transplantation. You will be informed about what techniques are used, which treatment options are available, and what results are possible.
The treatment:
The donor site is first prepared for transplantation. Local anesthesia is administered and the donor site, a narrow strip of skin from the back of the head, is removed. The resulting strip of exposed skin will not be visible due to remaining hair coverage, and will be sutured. This special suture technique will allow for hair regrowth over the donor site, allowing hair to be worn short if desired.
Selection/preparation of the hair roots:
After removing the strip of skin from the donor site, trained nurses will separate the hair roots into the smallest follicular units under a microscope. Each graft is composed of 1 to 4 hairs. The preparation of the hair follicle requires a high degree of precision to ensure quality hairs have been selected for transplantation. The KÖ-HAIR team can prepare over 2000 follicular units per day and can complete the transplantion within approximately 6 hours.
Hair Transplantation:
With the help of small hollow needles and/or thin micro-knives, slight punctures are placed in the treatment area. Subsequently, the follicular units are transplanted individually into the punctures using special forceps. Great care is taken to ensure that each follicular unit is placed according to directional growth to provide the most natural looking result. After each unit has been placed, the entire area is reviewed to ensure accurate placement and symmetrical graft density. A biological glue may be used when necessary for sealing purposes.
Post-treatment:
After the treatment, we will provide a detailed description of how to care for your hair immediately following the procedure and in the upcoming weeks. Upon completion of the superficial wound healing phase, the implanted hair follicles will begin to produce new, healthy, strong hair. Noticeable growth will begin in approximately 3 months. This hair will be retained for life.
Maintenance:
We are happy to assist you by telephone, email, or personal consultation to assess your results or concerns. A follow-up appointment should be made 8-12 months following your procedure.
When employing the FUE method, (Follicular Unit Extraction) hair root groups are removed individually using a hollow needle (0.65 mm to 1.0 mm diameter) in the donor area. Bleeding is minimal due to the absence of scalpel usage.
The Transplant Procedure:
The treatment area is first marked and taped accordingly. Thereafter, the hair follicle-groups, consisting of 1 to 4 hairs, are painlessly removed with a thin hollow needle. Due to the lack of scalpel, wounds are less invasive and heal more rapidly. After the follicle removal and with the aid of microscopic control, the hair follicles are transplanted directly into the treatment area. This procedure guarantees very natural results.
